I got a call from someone posing a “Google representative” from a spoofed local number. He tried to scare me into thinking Google was having trouble listing Abuzz Creative on Google Maps.
The “Google representative” then launched into a sales and support speech.
- He asked for my Google account login to access my profile.
- He asked for a credit card to cover the charges to correct my listing on Google Maps.

That was me hanging up.
If you get a call from someone posing as a Google representative, hang up. These “Google representatives” are trying to trick business owners into giving over access to their Google Business Profile
Google Business Profile Scams
The person calling with the Google Business Profile scam will make one (or all) of the following urgent claims:
- Your Google Business Profile needs verification.
- Your Google Business Profile is at risk of suspension.
- Google requires a fee to maintain your listing.
Scammers will create a sense of panic by saying your listing is about to be suspended or removed if you don’t take immediate action.
What is Their Goal?
This person is trying to steal control of your Google Business Profile listing.
By asking for your Google account login information to “verify” your listing, they are looking for complete control of your profile.
They can then manipulate information on your profile to harm your business and/or benefit themselves in some way.
Watch out for deceptive emails, phone calls, or text messages.
