More Facebook posts are placing links in their comments instead of the main caption. Why? Because Facebook is currently testing significant link limits for business pages.
Facebook algorithm penalizes links in captions because Facebook favors content that keeps users on their platform.
New Facebook Posts Link Limit for Business Pages
You can only share two (2) organic Facebook posts with external links per month – unless you subscribe to Meta Verified and have the blue verified check mark.
- Facebook wants to keep users on their platform longer.
- Facebook wants your business to pay for the Meta Verified service.
However, strategies like placing links in the first comment is a great workaround.
Facebook Posts with Link in First Comment
Since the Facebook algorithm penalizes links in captions, you can put links in the first comment instead.
Links to the first comment gives your post a better chance to be seen by more people.
When you want to share a link to your website or blog, you will have better reach if you move the link itself to the comments.
(Note: recent changes make some external links in comments unclickable; users might have to copy-paste.)
How to Schedule Facebook Posts on Meta
(With Link in First Comment)
To schedule a Meta post with a link in the first comment, use Meta Business Suite on a desktop.
First, create your post and schedule it as always.
Then, find your scheduled post in the Content tab to add the link as a comment.
Facebook will automatically publish the comment when your scheduled post goes live, which keeps links out of the main caption for better reach.
Using Meta Business Suite (Desktop)
Open Meta Business Suite and make sure that you’re acting as your Facebook Business Page.
Create & Schedule Post
- Click Create post, add your image/video and main text (without the link)
- Use the Scheduling options to set the date and time
- Click Schedule
Add the Comment with Link
- In the left sidebar, click on the Content tab.
- Click on Scheduled tab at the top, find your scheduled post and click on it.
- A window will appear that shows your post – this is where you can add your link in the first comment field.
Do not click the blue Publish button here. Your comment stays in the scheduled post once you add it.
If you do click the Publish button, the post will go live now instead of your scheduled date.
When your post goes live at the scheduled time, the comment with your link will post immediately after.
(Third-party tools also offer this feature directly in their schedulers.)
Facebook Posts and Link in First Comment
Posts with links in comments often see higher performance and awareness compared to those with links in the caption.
Encourage your followers to open and read the comments. Facebook will count this as interest which boosts interaction.
Please Note: On some pages (not all), Meta has made many external links in comments unclickable, appearing as plain text. Your followers might have to manually copy the URL from the comment and paste it into their browser to visit the site.
