Two different business owners contacted me in the last few weeks asking me to move their Wix website to WordPress. Unfortunately, you can’t move your Wix website “as is” to another hosting server.
Wix is a closed platform with proprietary code for building websites. Wix does not provide an easy way for website owners to migrate their content to software like WordPress.
Since there is no easy method for moving your Wix web pages, the only way to start over is to go old school – copy and paste. Ugh!
You Don’t Own Your Wix Website
With Wix, you don’t technically own your website. You are renting a place on the web. So it’s not something you can pick up and move to another location.
When it comes to rented property, you are at the mercy of your landlord.
In this case, that’s Wix. They own your website. (This is clearly stated in the Terms of Service you signed.)
You really should own your virtual property online, not renting. Your website should be an asset. You should own the web location and your website files.
Wix Lacks in Features and Flexibility
Both business owners who contacted me found that their options had become very limited with Wix.
Both business owners realized the extra features they needed were not available, even as paid upgrades.
If you’re finding you need more website features and design flexibility, it might be time to switch to a self-hosted WordPress website. WordPress is the industry standard for web design and is extremely powerful.
If you are ready to own your virtual home on the web, email me. Let’s move your business to WordPress so you can grow your website with more freedom.
Once done, you will own your website and that’s a plus!
