When posting someone else’s photo on Instagram, you must give credit where credit is due. Always, always credit the source.
Because, someone else actually took that beautiful photo you’ve decided to share.
The original photographer deserves to be recognized.
Give Credit on Instagram
Giving credit is simple!
In your Instagram caption, just tag the photographer with a mention of their account. They get notified that you tagged them because you’re sharing their photo with your followers.
Example: Photo by @marciewolf27
You can also use a Regram app that adds their profile name to the image as a watermark, as shown in my blog post graphic.
Was Your Photo Shared? Ask for Credit!
Did someone use your photo without giving you credit?
Leave a comment on their post saying, “Thank you for sharing my photo, I’m glad you like it!”
Follow up by sending them a direct message asking them to properly credit you as the photographer.
Be Kind. Don’t Steal.
We are all searching for inspiration to share, but we have to cite our sources. It’s proper Instagram etiquette.
Giving credit applies when sharing on Facebook, and any other social media channel.
Not giving credit is stealing. Period.
