It’s time to optimize your website for Google’s AI Overviews by shifting your search strategy focus from “ranking for keywords” to “being the best answer.”
Google’s AI Overviews use a variety of AI powered technologies to find website content that is easy to extract, factually dense, and structured logically.
Google’s AI Overviews results are summarized, conversational answers at the top of search results.
AI Summaries generate direct answers, often including images and text, reducing the need to click through multiple websites.
So how do you get your website content included in Google’s AI Overviews?
You need to update your content for the AI era!
I have a few easy yet critical updates you should make to your WordPress website.
1. Atomic Answer for AI Search Optimization
AI search engines love “snackable” data, or concise and visually driven content that can be shared.
Google’s AI Overviews look for a direct answer to then copy and paste into the search result.
- H2 Header with Summary: At the beginning of a blog post or service page, create a header in the form of a question.
- Short Summary: Place a 40–60 word summary that directly answers the question of the page.
AI can easily associate the question with the answer.
2. Structure Your Content for AI Tools to Skim
Are your web pages made up long drawn-out paragraphs of text?
If a human can’t skim your page in five seconds, Google’s AI Overview won’t cite it.
Use a clear hierarchy of headings (H2 and H3) with concise, easy to read in the summary below each heading.
- Update Your Headings: Instead of vague headings like “Our Services,” use question-based headings like “What types of websites do you build?”
- Content that Follows: Below your heading, add a concise paragraph that answers the question..
Use bullet lists and numbered lists when appropriate. These are AI magnets.
3. The FAQ Power-Up
Google’s AI Overviews love Q&A and FAQ sections. This type of content is already formatted in the Prompt -> Response style AI is looking for.
- Add a Good FAQ Page: Create a good Frequently Asked Questions page first, then add Q&A sections to every major service page.
- Questions to Include: Use real questions people ask your business to create questions for Q&A sections.
You can also use Google to find search queries people make. Use what you find for questions with answers that are short, concise, and helpful.
4. Boost Your E-E-A-T (Trust Signals)
Google’s AI Overviews is cautious about spreading misinformation.
This AI tool prefers sources that prove they are real experts and are trustworthy.
Google’s AI Overviews is looking for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-E-A-T).
- Update Your Bio and About Page: Make sure your author bio and About page mentions your years of experience, any certifications you might have, and local awards you are proud to have received.
- Check Your NAP: Don’t take a nap, check your NAP! Your Name, Address, and Phone Number should be 100% consistent on your website and your Google Business Profile.
Also, include testimonials or share a link to your Google Business Profile reviews. This boosts the social proof AI is looking for about you.
5. Your Content Freshness Matters
In 2026, AI prefers data that is current. If your content has been updated in years, it’s less likely to be cited.
- Check Your Website: Go through your top 5 most important pages and update any dates, statistics, or service descriptions.
- Change the Date When Updating: Before you save your post updates, change the Published Date to today’s date.
Google does re-evaluate old content if dates on posts have changed since they last checked.

Easy Updates for Google’s AI Overview

By updating your website to be more conversational and helpful, you have a better chance of getting cited in Google’s AI Overviews.
The easiest update is to create natural language queries on your website, typically through FAQ sections or concise summaries.
