You’ve heard that imitation is the highest form of flattery. If someone copies your ideas, you can take that as a compliment.
If someone getting started in your industry wants to be just like you, I often take it as a big compliment. They see you as a trendsetter and a leader which is pretty cool.
Except – They Copied My Website Content
Truth be told, when someone blatantly copies creative ideas that reflect your own individuality as a business, it can be really annoying instead of flattering.
One example is a local “web designer” copied my three web design plans.
This “web designer” used my web plan names (but inserted one different word), copied the description of what is included in my plan, and used the same layout I created for how the plans display on my web page.
How Should I Deal With This Copycat?
Ignore.
This person doesn’t add value to my life. Their designs are amateur at best. I’m not going to spend any time or energy worrying about them. (I will revisit their website to keep an eye on them…)
My content was indexed by Google years ago as the original content which is good for me.
Google will see theirs as duplicate content which is bad for them.
Just Keep Moving Forward!
With every business in every industry, there are biters. These biters are people who copy your ideas, style, design, and content.
If you create great things, those less creative will always mimic, steal, and copy. It’s just the nature of competition.
Keep creating and building and promoting.
Just don’t let the copycats kill your vibe.
