I know, you’re anxious to launch your new website. But you still have to decide true colors and write a bunch of valuable content. You’ll just add it later because it’s better to have something online than nothing, right?
In this case, not really…
Your website is a reflection of your business and your brand. The first fleeting seconds you have to engage your new audience are valuable.
They enter your website with anticipation… and it’s not finished. They stop scrolling. They don’t click links to find out more.
If I were one of your new website visitors, I’d be wondering if you leave all of your projects half-finished…?
Website still in the planning stages? Do not launch!
If you are still in the planning stage of your new website, do not launch yet!
Lots of small businesses have opted for easy-to-use website builders. Unfortunately, more websites are launched than ever lacking a brand and valuable content.
Don’t get me wrong – a website is NEVER done. You will always be adding content and products and services as you grow.
What I’m talking about is launching a website that is only the framework of what it will be.
- Your overall design isn’t done.
- You’re still working on your branding.
- Content has yet to be written.
- You haven’t taken pictures of your products.
- You haven’t decided who the contact will be on inquiries.
Wait to launch your website until it’s completely written. You will be adding more content as you go, but valuable content has to be on your website before you launch it.
Don’t believe me? Read Google’s Webmaster Guidelines. They do not recommend publishing a web page that is lacking valuable content.
Will our first impression be a good one?
When we visit your website, our first impression of your business comes from the design and layout of your site.
A website that looks unfinished is going to leave us with a bad first impression.
You have one chance for your first impression with a potential customer. An unfinished website without much content will create a negative first impression. We may never visit your website again based on our first experience.
Whenever we visit your website, we are a potential customer. This could be the only time we see what your company has to offer.
Wait until you have valuable, useful website content
Our next impression comes from your website content. We are visiting your site for useful information, to get answers and solutions, or to find out about your products.
The content of your website is the most important thing for a visitor.
Will we find the information we’re looking for?
A website that has very little content and a general feeling of being incomplete will give a bad first impression of your business. We probably won’t come back to your website.
And we won’t visit your business in person, either.
Hire someone to finish your website!
As a small business owner, you might have started a DIY website and planned to build it yourself.
But then running your business, taking customer orders, and planning events prevented you from finishing your website content.
So there your website sits, unfinished.
