I am sharing just a few common questions people have asked me about how they should be marketing their Northern Michigan business online.
Should I be using email marketing?
Yes! We are all attached to our email and we check our messages every day, sometimes up to twenty times a day. Always having our phones makes it even easier to check messages all day long. That means email continues to be the best way to reach your audience. Mailchimp and Constant Contact make it easy for you to send messages to your subscribers.
What is needed for an e-commerce website?
If you have a WordPress website, WooCommerce is a great shop plugin. It’s easy to add products, descriptions, photos, and special functions.
- Start small with a few products and grow as you go. Make sure you have great photos of your products! The better the photos, the better the chance of selling online.
- To process credit card payments securely, you can use a credit card processor like PayPal, Stripe, Square, or Authorize.net.
- There are great plugins for UPS which help you calculated live rates when your customers check out. You can also ship your products with USPS with flat rate shipping.
What is Google My Business?
Google launched a new platform in June 2014 called Google My Business as a free way for businesses like yours to manage your how you appear on Google Search and Google Maps. You can add information about your business, create posts, add photos, all of which makes it easier for people to find you in a Google Search or on a Google Map.
How do I hire the right social media expert?
As a busy business owner, it’s smart to outsource your social media.
- To find a well-qualified marketing team, do a Google search and visit their website.
- Follow links to their social channels and study their own engagement (e.g. how many comments and likes do their posts get?). If they have 2000 followers but very few likes or comments on their posts, they may not do much better for you.
- When meeting for price quotes on social media plans, be sure to ask for links to client work. You need to see the work they do for others first hand.
