Following hashtags on Instagram is a great way to see more posts about specific places, topics of interest, brands and products, and news from leaders in your industry.
For example, I love to see photos that people are sharing of Petoskey. I like to keep up on what’s happening around Petoskey, Michigan. By following the #petoskey and #petoskeymi hashtags, I now see posts in my feed from people that use these hashtag in their captions. These posts are in addition to accounts I already follow.
I’m following a hashtag called #socialmediamarketing which shows me posts using that hashtag, most often from leaders in social media marketing and management. I can easily see new content in my feed related to social media marketing, plus I can find new accounts to follow and engage with.
I have eight great reasons why you should consider following hashtags on Instagram.

To Follow a Hashtag on Instagram:
- Tap on the magnifying glass icon to go to the Explore page.
- Enter the hashtag you want to follow in the search bar.
- In the search results, tap on the hashtag you want to follow.
- On the hashtag’s page, tap the “Follow” button.
Keep in mind that following too many hashtags may clutter your feed, so it’s a good idea to choose only the ones that interest you most.
By choosing a few specific hashtags to follow, you can easily discover new photos, videos. and people on Instagram.
